Vampires are mythical creatures found in the folklore of several cultures around the world. The most well known attributes of vampires is he desire and lust for blood. In order to maintain their living dead life, they must feed off the blood of humans and/or animals, as it is what gives them strength. Humans turn into vampires when, a vampire feeds off their blood. Though the most pouplar belief is that a bite through the neck does it, anywhere where a vampire feeds can turn someone.
In SRH, there are two forms of vampires:
The first is an ancient line of vampires. These vampires are not as they are depicted in movies and some books. Sunlight does not kill them, neither does garlic. They are able to walk in the daylight, though it causes slight irritation to the skin, they are also able to eat garlic without being affected. They need blood to survive as do all of their race. As for a stake through the heart, it does kill them, as it kills any full vampire.
Vampires of the ancient line are able to mate and procreate children. Two Vampires can mate thus creating a child. But if a Vampire of this line takes a human as their mate, in rare occurances they will birth a hybrid. The half human, half vampire child born known as a 'Vampeal.'
The second form of vampire is that which was created from nothing. Eons ago a savage man, weary of his body made a pact with the devil offering his soul in exchange for eternal life. The devil accepted but with a twist, unbeknownst to the man, he would remain an immortal only by feeding on the blood of the living. He did so, but at the same time he was also giving his victims the chance for immortality, by turning them. These type of vampires can be easily taken care of by sunlight and the usual stake through the heart. Though they are unable to create life, they were compensated by having immense strength, moreso than those from the ancients line.
