It stood before him. An ancient trinket that held the insignia of his family. The image of a long serpent, it's mouth and it's body coiled thrive. Silver-Plated small box, that left only an inch of ancient oak finishing. He was holding it. Examining it. Eyes observed silently as he pried the lid open. Slowly it lifted...
And he awoke. Trees lay motionless in the night. Beasts prowled the area in search of food. A lone vampire hunter sat across a roaring fire. It was late in the night yet it seemed like the midnight skies had just let themselves be known. He breathed. That dream again. What did it signify? And why was it always about that long lost family heirloom?
Hands moved over his face. He hadn't even realized he was sweating until now. He checked himself. His shirts were damp, luckily, it wasn't a windy night. He rose to his feet, arms high above his head as he stretch. He just needed to snap out of it, he thought. He moved away from the fire and headed for a nearby stream. He bent low and dipped his hands into the water, splashing it across his bearded face.
"Damn shit-eaters.." He spoke annoyingly.
Earlier in the night, Hannibal, had found himself in a precarious situation. A gang of vampires thought they'd be slick and snatch people off the street's during this town's yearly festivities. No doubt they were hoping that the packed streets wold give them cover as they took people one by one. Unfortunately for them, he was there and sensed their shit-eating asses before they took too many. Had to be at least 50 of them, when he finally got a good view. But by some act of coincidence, Earnur, had been in this town too. So together, slayer and elf, made quick work of the vampires. But that was hours ago and now there was something else bothering the 3,000 plus old slayer.
"Shit, I can could go for some chicken on a stick right now."

She stood in the shadows watching the man who had changed her world in so many different ways. So many questions seemed to run through her mind as she let her eyes roam his features. The last time they had spoken it had ended in a terrible argument. One in which they had ended up on oposing sides, but still on the same side in the fight against the plague. She did not blame him for his anger towards her. Nor did she hate him for the harsh words he had spoken. In the end she knew he had been right. Right now she just wished for some kind of interaction with him. It was why she had transported herself to this place.
This was one of her better days. One of the days where she did not feel that her heart was starting to slow. Or that her time here was almost done. A day where she enjoyed the time she had with her broken yet thriving family. But the day would not be complete without her seeing him. She closed her eyes as she mustered up the courage to move forward into the light that was cast by the fire. And when she had finally moved she stood a lost soul, in search of her own heaven.

He sat on the rocky ground for a few minutes just musing to himself. He hated having to run out on his family so suddenly like his but it seemed like he was being called to take out some Vampires at every turn. This plague was making the nastiest blood suckers come out. If it weren't enough people kept dying in throngs. Hundreds at a time, only if they were lucky. Unfortunately, he witnessed what happened to the unlucky who did not die. So many plague victims turning on each other, and spreading the disease. And still no one had any idea of who or what was behind the atrocity.
Finally, Hannibal stood and hurried back to camp. He'd collect his things and then go out to patrol the town. He felt something odd in the air. Like something was going to happen but he couldn't pinpoint how or why. As he moved into the light of the fire he saw her there. He couldn't lie, he was happy to see his Princess, but that happiness was quickly overshadowed with anger. The one LOVED not to listen, and they always bumped heads for it.
"Shouldn't you be resting?" He spoke coldly. He was still angry at the fact that she'd kept her sickness from the family, from him. She could have died, she could have endangered them all, but instead, as always, Nailana didn't think things true. But then, he did love her stubborn personality, no matter how many times they got in an argument over it.
"You need to go back to the Tower and rest." He eyed her. "You should at least be with Arinna."

She stared down her nose at him in haughty indignation. He always new how to make her feel like he didnt want her around but at the same time letting her know he needed her. "Its nice to see you too Slayer." She let her features soften slightly as she looked upon him, "I am fine. This is one of my better days. So nice of you to worry though." She eyed him then took a seat on a log and looked around, "So this is where you have kept yourself hidden. Did you not think to tell someone where you were?"
She brushed off his last question, her daughter was fine. That she was sure of. She had seen to her right before she had made her travel to this place. But this was also one of the reasons for the trip here. Arinna's fate was yet to be determined but Farinele was sure that her disease had not progressed at all. She sighed and looked at him, her demeanor changing yet again, "The Tower is a lonely place now days. When are you coming home? When will this war between us stop?"

"You shouldn't be out here, period, good day or not." He looked at her and unscrewed the top of a canteen filled with water and drunk from it. "What if you feel weak all of a sudden? Remember what happened last time, and we were just in our backyard. You shouldn't risk your health." He gave her another look and then threw the canteen at her. He crossed his arms and closed his eyes for a few moments.
"Whenever I stop getting these unexpected messages. Everytime I go home, someone sends some messenger to find me. I'm barely there a day, so I'll just cut off the middle ground and go straight to where I hear trouble is coming. It might give me a few days rests if I'm lucky. I miss home though. I miss Mae's chicken on a stick." He gave a sigh. He hated being away from the Tower. He hated being so far apart of his family when all this was happening. And he hated leaving her alone. But he had no choice, this was his job and they all knew it. Finally he opened his eyes and stared at her.
"I don't know." He said simply. It wasn't so much a war between them as the fact that they always tended to bump heads. "Maybe when you start thinking before you act."

She watched him drink from his canteen and then sighed, "Is it a crime to want to see the one you care for? I am stubborn and I wont let this beat me." She caught the canteen quickly and then unscrewed the top. She lifted it to her lips and let the cool water soothe her sore throat then brought it down again, "That was different. I got worked up and angry. It drained my energy. Besides that wasnt a really good day."
She screwed the lid back on teh canteen and then threw it back to him, "That can be solved. I shall screen your mail. Any suspicious letters will be burned. At least I know you dont have a girlfriend in another town." She smiled slightly, he knew she would never interfere with his duties. After all if she had been healthy, she would be right along beside him when she could. But this wasnt the case. She turned and rummaged through a sack she had brought with her then turned holding out a sack labeled, "Dad."
She let her eyes wander over his face and then gave him a small smile, "You know I cant do that. Would you still love me if I bowed to your every whim?"

"It is when you're health is in jeopardy. Jesus, Nai. You're dying. You have this damn plague and you're alive because of who knows what. Do you think your family wants to see you weak and on the brink of death? Do you think I want to see my wife wasting away. I want my bitchy ass Nailana. Yeah I said it. We might argue like our lives depended on it, but it's how our relationship has always worked! And you having this plague and walking around isn't going to help matters." There was an anger and tenderness in Hannibal's eyes.
He gave a sigh and took the sack placing it next to him. "No I don't want you to do that, but I want you to listen when you KNOW I'm right. If you want to kill yourself, fine. Then do it away from the family. Go off and travel and get yourself even sicker but don't bring anymore pain into that Tower. You could have sent me a damn messenger. Could sent Malachi to fetch me. But no, as always the grand Lee Princess doesn't listen."

She bowed her head under the weight of the words he flung at her. She knew he was right but that didnt mean she had to agree with him, "I know it isnt what everyone wants to see me as. You all have endured through my death once already. But in order for me to make myself feel like I will live through this, I have to stay active. I can not stand by and just sit there while my families lives keep going on around me." She lifted her head and stared back into his eyes, "I'm not leaving my family this time."
She ran a hand through her hair and sighed, "I don't want to kill myself Hannibal and that is one thing that you should know." Her eyes glazed over as they filled with tears she refused to let fall, "Would you have come if I had sent a messenger Hannibal? Would you have dropped your savior act for one moment to actually come? Your right I dont listen, but only when it comes to you. And your damn stuborn pride."

"Yeah, I would have come." He said angrily. He may have been a lot of things but when his family needed him, he liked to think he was always there. He turned his head and just looked at the shadows of the tree branches that played on the ground because of the fire. "I've fucked up my entire life. I know I've done a lot of shit, but my family, I won't ever fuck that up again. It's my driving force. It's what makes me feel alive. I love you, Nai. Wouldn't have married you any other way."
He took a deep drawn out breath. "Savior act? So you think I do this because I want to play hero?" He laughed and shook his head. "I guess you don't know me as well as I thought you did, Nai. But I'll just chock it up to the plague. Every other shitty thing that's been going is blamed on that thing. And yeah, I've got a stubborn act but at least I KNOW when I'm beat. I don't walk around like I'm invincible. I'm not too prideful to admit when I'm hurt. But you, you're bent making your family suffer with your thoughtless actions." He stood slowly. "Here's me putting on my savior act again. Go home. I have to go "save" some people. I'll come back when I've finished here. I promise." He looked down at her. Although he wouldn't verbalize it, he was hurt by her words.
Bending down he gave her a soft kiss on her forehead and then moved to gather his belongings. He grabbed his stakes, his bow and arrow and the bag he'd brung with him with him here.
"See ya, Nai." And he walked through the woods, preferring this, than to arguing with a wife he feared he would lose.

She raised her brow as he spoke. But after awhile she lowered her head once more. Again she had crossed that invisible line. The one that she always seemed to cross everytime they spoke now days. She spoke through a cracked voice but never once looked at him, "You havent fucked it up. Your a better person then I am. I am the one who walks out now days." She looked up as tears threatened to spill, "I love you too. More then you could ever know."
She closed her eyes as he nearly exploded on her. She let him speak, knowing that she deserved to hear the tirade. She stood when he did and stared at him, "I know that I am not invincible. I know that I could very well die at the slightest moment. But I refuse to let this beat me Hannibal. In the least you could understand my hunger to be with the family while I can be. I know my biggest flaw is in my actions. I know that I do things that hurt our family. But you speak as if I am the only one. We all have our flaws, we all make mistakes. You want me to sit at home, in the bed, and let everyone come to me when they feel like it? I'll do that then. Starting tomorrow that is what I will do." She looked at him and then looked away, not wanting to see the hurt in his eyes.
She closed her eyes as his lips brushed against her forehead. She watched him pack his things then move into the trees. But she was tired of them always ending their meetings like this. But it was inevitable when she was like this. She sighed and then disappeared as well.
